Website’s 1st Anniversary
The month of March marked the one year anniversary of our self-hosted blog and property search websites: Huntsville Real Estate Resource Center and Huntsville Alabama Homes. I can’t tell you the countless hours, not to mention the money, that our family has expended in this risky business endeavor.
Prior to last year, Elizabeth had always used commercial shared-user hosting services for web-presence and blogging, and while this effort had been successful, it lacked the search engine benefits that can come with self-hosting and thus in my view, much exposure to appropriate web traffic.
Thus when I offered to put it all together in a self-hosted environment, even though I had not done any web development since 1995, …oh my gosh …given this offer Elizabeth decided to take me up on it and thus here we are, one year later.
Measuring the Results
The response we have received from this year long effort has been nothing short of remarkable, in my view. Reviewing the number of visits statistics from our 1st month of operation and the past 30 days may be the best way to illustrate this:
- March 2008 = 655 visits vs March 2009 = 14,803 visits.
Nonetheless, statistics are a cold and oftentimes meaningless way of measurement. We also receive several emails/phone-calls a day from website visitors for a variety of reasons and more than often this correspondence mentions how helpful the information and property search features of the website have been.
This acknowledgment from those whom the website is created for, is by far the best measurement of all, at least from a web designer’s perspective. 🙂
I would just like to thank all of our website users for your input and acknowledgement and ask that your keep sharing your ideas they have been very helpful.
Tim (webmaster)
