First of all Apologies
First, I would just like to apologize to many of our regular website users for our up and downtime during much of this past ‘Open House’ weekend; late Friday night and into the ”wee-hours’ of Sunday morning.
We are blessed to have well-over a 100,000 unique-user-visits a month on @HomesHuntsville.com alone, and many-many more when counting all of our websites.
Moreover most of our website traffic is not search-engine related but returning visitors ~65% to 35%. So it is important for readers to know that all of our regular website users, whether a client or not; you are very important to us!
Denial of Service Attack
‘A Denial of Service Attack (Dos attack) is an attempt to make a machine or network resource unavailable to its intended users. One common method of attack involves saturating the target machine with external communications requests, so much so that it cannot respond to legitimate traffic, or responds so slowly as to be rendered essentially unavailable.’
In the past 6-years we have had several of these types of attacks, however none as quite as sophisticated as this. This was in all senses of the word; A Dynamic Dos Attack attacking multiple domains from multiple origins.
Moreover it was ‘Especially Heinous‘ (well below industry norm’s) in its URL formations. Thus while I will not reveal its’ Techniques’ in detail giving anything resembling a: ‘How To’
I will nonetheless just say, at points during the battle, …it rattled my efforts to the tune of several thousands of accesses per second, a serious effort to say the least.
Kind Regards,
Tim
