So, you are making a move to the Huntsville Alabama area. The most common advice you will receive is to: compare movers by requesting a number of free moving quotes. While this is certainly good advice, what are the costs you really should keep a close eye on?
Details are the Key
If you want an accurate quote then provide as much detail as you can, the more detail the more accurate accounting of cost you will receive. Moving companies need information about the amount of furniture you will be moving, what packing services you’re requesting, so that they can determine how many people, amount of packing material, and what size vehicle is needed.
Remember the cheapest mover is not always the best. Some less qualified movers might overlook belongings while estimating, and in our own experience we have had a cheaper mover show up with the wrong vehicle and we had to move some of our belongings our self due to schedule constraints. In the end the cheaper carrier proved more expensive in this regard.
Be Sure and Count Extra Services
Are you going to require extra services? If so be sure that these options are covered by the moving companies you are evaluating. If these services are not provided, you should decide whether you would like to arrange this separately, or consider doing the packing and unpacking yourself for a big cost savings. Extra charge services include: Packing services, Boxing, Supply of Boxes, Fragile packing, Storage of goods, Insurance for your goods, and Specialty Removals such as Piano or Antiques
Make a Pro-Con List
There are many criteria for choosing a moving company. Some companies provide reduced rates; while others provide additional security for your belongings, or extra services that can help you more effectively. So be sure to sum up all the pros and cons carefully, before deciding which company you opt for.
Also be sure to check that they are members of a professional trade organization! National trade associations maintain professional high standards and can give you detailed information about member companies. Members of these associations are usually vetted annually. Also, if you are unsatisfied with the services provided, you have a higher authority that you can contact. Two of the more renowned trade associations include: American Moving and Storage Association and Household Goods Forwarders Association of America.
