Living the Dream

I‘ve been meaning to get my family out on a field trip to The Ledges of Huntsville Mountain and this past weekend we finally made it happen. The Ledges is first and foremost a private gated golf community within southeast Huntsville city limits, thus it is not open to the general public so it is definitely not a neighborhood for casual drive-bys. However they are Realtor friendly, so be sure to take along your agent and there will be no problem gaining access to the development and it is quite a treat, let me tell you.

The Ledges of Huntsville Mountain – Homes For Sale

The Ledges are literally chiseled out of the top of Huntsville Mountain with 150 acres being used for residential development, 250 acres for the 18 hole golf course, and another 350-400 acres of preserve greenbelt that wraps the mountain to maintain its natural beauty. With a 1000 feet of vertical elevation from the valley floor, the views are nothing less than spectacular, to the east you look down upon Hampton Cove and its Robert Trent Golf Trail courses and to the west Jones Valley, the Medical District, and Downtown Huntsville.

The Golf Course

While at regulation length of 7100 yards with a par 71, the course is a difficult one and missing the fairway can sometimes land your shot 100 feet down an embankment, so staying in bounds is critical. The USGA rates the course for a scratch player at 75 and handicaps are adjusted via a slope rating of 136 which nears the top of the max 155 value. So if its challenging golf you’re looking for, then it is here at The Ledges.

Did I mention the Clubhouse? Unbelievably gorgeous, with English Tudor styling and over 36,000 square feet it contains a grand hall, private men and ladies lounges, bars, 2 dining rooms, ball room, and of course a pro shop. Both levels have outdoor seating for dining overlooking a formal garden area.  The community pool is also adjacent to the Clubhouse.

The Homes

Of course hubby was most interested in the golf course and spent sometime out chatting it up with a couple of caddies and taking measure of the course layout and such, I on the other hand came for the Homes, it is truly a blessing to love your job and that I do very much.

The best way to describe the architectural designs throughout the neighborhood is, New Historic. Sounds like a conflicting term I know, but nonetheless accurately reflects the home designs encountered at The Ledges. All the residential building was and is tightly controlled around an 18th and 19th century American architecture theme. At times it feels like the old south, turn the corner and it seems you’re in a transported New Orleans French Quarter, less all the street partying that is. With lots of front porches and side walks and mail and utility access in the rear of most homes the neighborhood truly does have an old time feel.

The best way to get a view yourself is to navigate through the enclosed slide-show even open it to a full screen view and take a look at the tree lined streets because we tried to take many pictures of this secluded neighborhood for our readers. Also be sure to utilize the link below and take a close look at the current homes for sale in The Ledges.

Wow, the Ledges looks quite beautiful and sounds like a wonderful place to make a trip to. I am always amazed at the different architectures across the country and understand the use of the term ‘new historic.’ There is a similar term, ‘vintage modern’ which talks to homes built in the 1940s – 1970s that are redone to capture both that vintage feel with newer amenities. Funny how that works.

Again, a gorgeous area and you captured it so well.
