Sat July 5th – Day Two
Head up to Monte Sano State Park. Prepare to be “awed”. You will not believe the views! Monte Sano sits 1600 feet above sea level, and sits on 2340 acres. Breathtaking! Load the bikes and hit the trails. Don’t feel like biking? Hit the trails on foot. You may stumble upon a cave you want to explore and see a fossil! The plateau of the mountain is 400,000,000 years old. Yes, I said millions! Be sure to bring your camera and binoculars. The views from the cliffs are amazing. Wildlife will surround you and take your breath away. Be sure to pack a picnic lunch. There are plenty of pavilions and picnic tables. The kids will love the playground! If you get thirsty or need a snack, head for the General Store! Admission to the park is $3.00 for adults, and $2.00 for children. Under 5, free!
When evening falls, head to the Observatory, for the “Exploring Saturn” program. The Von Braun Astronomical Society runs shows in their planetarium on Saturday nights The show starts at 7:30. This will be a great experience for everyone. If you decide not to see the show, create your own. No need to bring telescopes. They have plenty, at no cost! You can look up into the heavens and wish upon your favorite star. Admission for the Saturn program is $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for children. 5 and under are free. There is no cost to visit the Observatory or Planetarium.
