HQAMC-Forward hires first active duty, civilian employees at Redstone

As the U.S. Army Materiel Command prepares for its permanent transition to Redstone Arsenal, Ala., Headquarters Army Materiel Command – Forward is expanding the AMC family with the hiring of the first civilian and active duty employees at Redstone.

Brian Harrington came to HQAMC-Forward in January from the Aviation and Missile Research, Development and Engineering Center’s Aviation Engineering Directorate, Redstone. He now serves as a program analyst for the Office of Command Contracting.Harrington has 23 years in civil service and 31 years as an Army Reservist. As a lieutenant colonel (promotable) with 8th Army Korea, Harrington’s assignments have stationed him all over the world.

“I am extremely excited to be part of AMC. When I first learned about [AMC’s] BRAC while I was with TACOM in Michigan, joining the organization became one of my long-range goals. I am happy to be here and look forward to spearheading this move for the rest of the organization,” said Harrington.

Harrington, a native of Little Rock, Ark., holds a bachelor’s degree in business from Northwood University and a master’s from the University of Central Michigan.

Maj. Roderic Spencer (promotable) joined HQAMC-Forward in February. Spencer previously served as the secretary of the general staff for the Space and Missile Defense Command, Redstone, and has 22 years of military service.Spencer’s assignments have included Fort Carson, Colo., Fort Polk, La., Germany, Bosnia and the Army Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations and Plans, Washington, D.C. where he served under then Lt. Gen. Benjamin Griffin.

Spencer, an Alabama native, now serves as a force developer for AMC Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations, G-3/5.

“I’m excited (to be with AMC). When I was assigned to SMDC as Force Structure Chief I worked some of the BRAC issues as we were transitioning our headquarters to Huntsville so I’m looking forward to working some of those same issues at AMC. AMC is going through some changes with BRAC and standing up new commands so I am looking forward to being a part of all that,” said Spencer.

Spencer earned a bachelor’s in Industrial Technology from Alabama A&M and a master’s in Acquisition and Procurement from Webster University.

Spencer has been married to his wife, Mary, for 15 years and they have an eight-year-old daughter.
